Computers

The computer is a wonderful machine. They are already widely used in industries and in universities. They are used in many ways.

Computers can do many kinds of work. For example, computers can helps us do maths problems quickly. Some problems are too hard for us to work them out, but computers can. A scientist can ask computers some questions, and the computers can answer on the screen.

In a car-factory computer tells the robots how to do with the cars.

Computers are very useful. So many parents buy computers for their children. They hope computers can help them improve their studies in school, but some children don’t do as what parents want them to do. Because they used the computers for surfing on the Internet and spend too much time playing computer games instead of learning. It does not good for their eyesight. So their parents complain about computers not help children to study but also make them fall behind.

In many companies computers instead of workers to work. So many people lose their jobs. So many workers think computers bring them a lot of trouble.

If computers are good for us or bad for us it’s hard to say so I hope computers will be used in the right way.

On computers

Dear Editor,

I’m writing to tell you how we students use computers in our daily lives. Some use it in a good way, while some others don’t.

So far as I am concerned, more and more students now use computers to help with their study. If they meet some difficulties when they are doing their homework, they always get help from the Internet. To spend their spare time, they look for more information with the computers to have a better knowledge.

At the same time, however, a great number of students are still so interested in PC games and chatting with others on the Internet that they can’t force themselves to return to their study. They are really in danger.

That’s how we mainly use computers. It can either do good or harm to us.

Best wishes

Yours truly

A Hong Kong school is using the heroine of a Korean soap opera set in the 19th century to teach its pupils life skills.

Yau Ma Tei Catholic School has adopted the hit show “Jewel in the Palace” as a model for a series of classes in which pupils recreate real life situations and work out how the lead character would solve them.

“Dae Jang Geum embodies (shows) the sort of qualities and values that we would like our children to have,” said Patsy Leung, the school’s head of civic education.

In the period drama, set in Korea’s 19th-century Joseon Dynasty, Dae Jang Geum is a servant girl who rises up to become the only female doctor in the emperor’s court. Parents should stop blaming themselves because there’s not a lot they can do about it. I mean the teenager problem. Whatever you do or however you choose to deal with it, at certain times a wonderful, reasonable and helpful child will turn into a terrible animal.

I’ve seen friends deal with it in all kinds of different ways. One strict mother insisted that her son, right from a child, should stand up whenever anyone entered the room, open doors and shake hands like a gentleman. I saw him last week when I called round. Sprawling himself(懒散地躺) on the sofa in full length, he made no attempt to turn off the loud TV he was watching as I walked in, and his greeting was no more than a quick glance at me. His mother was ashamed. “I don’t know what to do with him these days,” she said. “He’s forgotten all the manners we taught him.”

He hasn’t forgotten them. He’s just decided that he’s not going to use them. She confessed (供认) that she would like to come up behind him and throw him down from the sofa onto the floor.

Another good friend of mine let her two daughters climb all over the furniture, reach across the table, stare at me and say “I don’t like your dress; it’s ugly.” One of the daughters has recently been driven out of school. The other has left home.

“Where did we go wrong?” her parents are now very sad. Probably nowhere much. At least, no more than the rest of that unfortunate race, parents.

A. pay no attention to them B. are too busy to look after them

C. have come to hate them D. feel helpless to do much about them

Do you want to work with people or animals or machines or tools? Do you want to work indoors or outdoors, directly serve people in need or serve people behind the scenes? These are the typical questions that a volunteer service agency would ask.

Every year, thousands and thousands of people in the west offer volunteer services. Volunteering greatly strengthens the community partly because it helps the old the young, the weak, the sick, the disabled and the injured to overcome difficulties.

Volunteers usually help in many different ways. They may give people advice, offer friendship to the young, drive the elderly to church, counsel kids against drugs, work as an assistant in a school or nursing home, raise funds, plant trees, help out in local libraries and do many other things.

Volunteering can be a few hours a week or a few hours a month, time during the day, evenings or weekends, either part time or full time. Anybody _____ can become a volunteer.

One possible version:

I will travel with my parents in Hainan province this summer vacation. We’ll take the following things with us, which are my ID card, a camera, a compass, a CD player and some clothes. I think the ID card is a basic and necessary document, and it is often used by tourists. The camera is used to take pictures or record what we have done during the trip, and it can bring us a lot of fun. We’d better take the compass with us when traveling in the forests, in case we may get lost. And then the CD player I think, is also very important for me to kill the time when on the bus, on the train or the plane. What’s more, I have to bring one or two coats when traveling to a different place in case the weather changes. In a word, among all above, I think the ID card is the most important.

篇12:computers in students flats英语作文

computers in students flats英语作文

computers in students' flats (宿舍) are a catch word on campus. an increasing number of students can afford or hire computers. they appreciate a chance to learn about computers from the comfort of their own flats, without the embarrassment (尴尬,难为情) or shyness of going into a computer hall and feeling not educated.

the world is changing with a speed like never before, and students feel that computers are playing an important role in that change. they agree that they must have computer skills to survive in today's world. they get on board, cease to be computer illiterate (电脑盲) on the information highway. no student should enter the future without being computer literate.

while students take giant steps to catch up on the information superhighway, they should be alerted to problems of buying or renting computers. playing games or surfing aimlessly on the internet will do much harm. otherwise, any attempt to learn computer will end up as nothing but an empty dream.
